Question of the Week ~ 07/07/09

This is an issue that received a great deal of attention at our house this past weekend and I need your input.

When you eat corn on the cob, do you eat horizontally across the cob or do you nibble your way around the cob?

This is too funny! I eat around the cob-everyone else in the family eats horizonally! They always make fun of me! I have always done it that way! I am waiting to hear from everyone else! Deb you have not mentioned how you eat it! I sure hope I am not the only odd-ball,if so I will not tell the rest of family! Boy,if I am not alone I will sure let them know!!!

I personally eat across the cob, you know, like a typewriter across the page.  Deaner eats his that way also.  I noticed at lunch Saturday that my friend, Erma, was eating around the cob.  I meant to take a poll of all the other people there but I was too busy eating my corn on the cob!

Well at least I know i am not the only person who eats around the cob!!  Our local corn has just started coming in-haven't bought any yet.My son-in-law planted also-but it will be a little later.

Our first corn crop came in about a month ago.  Oddly, I usually cut mine off the cob.  If eaten on the cob, I eat it both ways---around and across!  Once I start eating it, I eat all the corn off the cob before I put it down.

I eat it across the cob. We have some corn locally, but many things are late since we had such a rainy cool June. Of course, my perennial garden has never looked better. Joe Pye Weed plant is usually about 2 feet high, but this year it is almost 5 feet tall. Each day another gorgeous colored flower blooms. Tomatoes are getting there. The garden will be very unhappy now that normal summer weather is here!!!

I eat mine across the cob. Our corn is no way near ready. We do have green tomatoes though! Can hardly wait!

I'm like Margaret who eats it both ways smile.gif I only eat it at home so I can floss my teeth right away.  Sad to say our garden is not doing what it was last year.  Too much rain has rotted the zuccini & I had to replant twice.  The cuces, potatoes & pumpkins aren't doing good either.  I did pick yellow beans recently & it was the usual melt in your mouth course, but, sad to say they aren't doing too well either.  Also picked a few green peppers, they & the tomatoes will be our good crop this year.  At least something is growing out there smile.gif

It is soooo hot and dry here that I haven't worried too much about a garden. My apple crop came in and my pear crop is "iffy". The leaves are limp and pale and they just aren't getting enough water. Same with the fig trees. I'm going to try and water them this afternoon IF it cools off. We are having August weather and had hot weather this Spring! Hope it cools off enough this fall so we can have a winter garden. Did get the corn crop in the freezer before the hot weather. I am worried that this really hot gulf water may make for a very bad hurricane season for the rest of July and August. I'm not worried about myself, but I do have friends on the MS gulf coast and the region just doesn't need anymore hurricanes.

We have had a very wet and cool spring and summer so far this year! It is amazing how well everything is growing! It has been very difficult to get mowing and other outside work completed. This past week has been dry and in the mid-80's with low humidity! Beautiful weather! It is not great swimming weather-but wonderful to work outside. Sweet corn, tomatoes, melons and green beans are in abundance! Sure makes me happy!
