Calling all PACC members and friends! Welcome back to the PACC Convention 2009 Forum. The Convention is in just under 4 months and tremendous fun is lurking! I hope all our members and friends will be able to attend.
The room rate at the Sonesta is EXTREMELY reasonable if we reserve over 10 rooms. NO is a major hub so the plane fares are always cheap. I have a lot of fun planned, which may or may not include a swamp tour in a canoe and a trip to a voodoo museum! In N.O. you never know. See you at Emeril's.
Check out the new 2009 PACC Convention website at www.paccconvention2009.shutterfly.com for all the latest scoop and auction items for the convention.

I told Deaner the things we HAVE to do while we're there include
swamp boat ride Oak Alley tour beignets at Cafe du Monde paddle boat ride on the Mississippi tour the cemeteries listen to some blues eat a po boy sammich
He told me we weren't moving there - just visiting:)
Did you know that in New Orleans everyone is interred above ground because all the cemetaries are below sea level? No one is buried in the ground. That is one of the things that makes the cemetaries so interesting. Lots of fancy mausoleums!
Laura, someone is going to have a really nice piece--it is beautiful. If you have been to the convention site, you know that I posted the similar item you had. I will change the picture when I receive the "real thing". Otherwise, there really isn't a hurry.
Hey eveyone -- I am planning on going to the convention. It is so fun. Is there anyone out there who would like to share a room? My husband is not able to attend.
Convention forms are going out next week. If you are thinking about attending would you please post so we can get an idea of what kind of arrangements to make? I hope everyone can come, but I know that is not possible. I would truly love to meet everyone.
Me, me, me - I'm coming and the mister insists on coming along. We've been checking out flights, etc. What will we do if we can't get the 10 room rate? I gotta tell ya that the regular room rate is out of our budget:(
Hey, we were watching the Roloffs the other night. Amy and the kids were in NO. They went to a place Insectarium. Dean has added that to the list of places we have to go. Right now it looks like we're coming down Monday or Tuesday but have to be back at work the following Monday.
Come on, everyone, if you can swing it, join us in the Big Easy!
I have been asking for the names of people who are planning to attend the convention this year. We are far short of the number of rooms that we need to book to get a good room rate. Sooo....There has been a very large change of plans. Deb and Debbie are going to come in on Friday and we are going to New Orleans to try to accomplish some of the things on Deb's list, plus we are going to eat at Emerils and we are going to the French Market for the beignets. We are going back to my house and have a slumber party! We will have our meeting and auction on Saturday at my shop where we will feast on roast beef poboys and sweet tea! Saturday night, we will have a blow out feast at my house with jambalaya, boiled shrimp, pecan pie, bread pudding and pralines--with lots of blues music! It is rediculous for the club to spend so much money ($800 for 2 meeting rooms) and the catering is exorbitant. If there were 20 members attending, it might be worth it. Deb, Debbie and I will have a great time and I hope others will join us. New Orleans is a fun city--you won't regret a visit. Join us at Emeril's Friday night and I would love to play host to all of you at my house on Saturday. I am a very short drive North to Magnolia and you will have plenty of time to get back to NO for your trip home. We have a really nice B&B here in Magnolia and all the convience motels in MCComb, if you want to stay here in town. Or you can plan your trip to NO and just drive to Magnolia for the meetings, auction and feast. Either way, you will have a great time I promise. Let me know what you think.

Oh,it sure sounds like so much fun! I would love to see NO also and hubby loves to watch Emeril's cooking shows on food network-it just is not possible right now with all the problems of the past few years. Hopefully one year it will be right. Have a great time and fill everyone in on all the things you all do. Your menu sounds terrific-and the music!
Danny and I will be there Margaret! I can hardly wait! Danny has been to NO 3 times before but I've never been. We have our vacation planned and time approved at work. I don't have my room reserved yet but I am going to research that this evening. I wonder if Emeril ever shows up at his NO restraurant. Wouldn't that be so cool! I definately want to find the Antiques Capitol of the World. I love to go "anteeking". I assume you have been there? When you get a list of whose coming please post it, I'd love to see who is coming! I bet Earlene will be there. I don't think she does computers. I can't really remember. You may have to drop her a note.
Earlene does do computers! She sent me the pictures featured in her profile in the last newsletter. I hope she can make it. Since so few of our members are planning to attend, I will not encur the added expense of doing a special mailout just for attendance forms. I will include them in the next issue which is due out 1 May. I am very excited about having the meeting at my home. My BIL calls our place the Ponderosa from old Bonanza fame. I wouldn't go that far but it is a neat home-perfect for America! If anyone has any questions about the changes in our initial plans--please don't hesitate to contact me with your questions. Janyce, Deb, Debbie and I are going to have a blast and hope you can join us!
Our room is booked! We are staying at the Quality Inn. It's 3 blocks from the French Quarter. Got a good room rate $98.99! They also discounted our parking to $14 a day and can come and go as we please. I can hardly wait!
Just a little over a month to go! I have a little corner of my home office where I've started piling stuff to take with me. I bought a new purse and my new vacation underwear (sorry if that's too much information). Can you tell I'm slightly excited?
Hello, just commenting on the New Orleans Cemetaries... I am from Louisiana, my family is from Lake Charles, La. there is another reason the graves are build tall"above ground" when a man & his wife (for life) die; they are burried together. one on /in the top casket...& the other on /in the bottom casket. If they die @ different times (usually) they will dig up the first casket to put the wife under the husband's casket & re-burry the both of them. odd is what we CAJUN'S think.
Bon jour, Shanin! I have Cajun family in Lake Charles also and I was married to an old Cajun boy (Doucet) from there. I think the burial arrangements are very practical and a little romantic-but it can be a little disturbing the first time tourists see all the vaults above ground. Just wanted to give the sight-seers a little heads-up!
They do the one on top of the other burial thing (only underground) at the national cemeteries as well. At least at the one in Fort Scott. I really hate to think I couldn't have my own space but since I wish to be cremated I guess I don't have to worry.
Miz M, I just about bought my plane ticket today but decided I should wait and have Deaner look over the terms and conditions in case I was missing something. First time I ever bought a plane ticket and I'm such a dufus lately I don't want to mess up.
Deb, I never knew that there was vacation underwear. Is there a special section in Kohl's for that? Ha! I'm looking forward to going next month also. I've only been to one PACC Convention but it was a really good time. It's countdown to 4 and 1/2 weeks!
My mama always told me to be sure and wear nice underwear whenever I went on a trip. Not sure why but I bought my WM JMS granny panties just in case. Also bought a new watch when we were in Branson Sunday. Couldn't find any Skechers I wanted at the outlet mall ~ darn it.
I have my ticket FINALLY - do you know how hard it is to buy an airline ticket without a credit card? I persevered and found a place that would take my debit card instead. CREDIT CARDS ARE EVIL. See you guys one month from today!!!
Hey, Janyce ~ Just nipped over to Emeril's website to look around. Checked out the menu ~ I don't even know what some of that stuff is ~ you guys will have to be my culinary guides ~ I'm willing to try most anything once. Was relieved to see the dress code is casual ~ think we should wear matching tees? hehehe
Yep-I will be picking Deb up at the Jackson airport one month from today. Do you want to go to Emeril's on Friday or Saturday nite? Friday would be better for me because Bill will be here to drive us and I won't have to pay attention to the road. He will be gone all day Saturday to a tractor pull and I will be foot loose and fancy free---but I would have to drive. I vote for Friday night! Let me know and I will make the reservations! Deb-matching tees would be too cute! Be careful not to sound too excited, Dean might decide to come. I have gone through my stained glass supplies and a stained glass Ohio Star is on the schedule. We should all have time to make a couple! Great fun!
It looks like it may be starting according to weather reports on Today Show this morning! I thought it seemed early, but apparently it is not! No fear-there will be none when you travel!
The truth of the matter is that hurricane season does start in June. I cannot remember any storms this early in the season, however. I'm sure there has been or they wouldn't say it starts in June! Don't worry--we are safe.
I am going to make reservations at Emeri's NOLA Restaurant. I like the menu best and I want some sweet potato ice cream. Check out the menu there and see what you think.

Hickory-Roasted Duck with Whiskey-Caramel Glaze, Buttermilk Cornbread Pudding, Haricot Verts-Fire Roasted Corn Salad, Natural Jus and Candied Pecans
or
Grilled Pork Porterhouse with Brown Sugar Glazed Sweet Potatoes, Toasted Pecans and Caramelized Onion Reduction Sauce
Please note I resisted the beef and the chicken as those would have been my safe choices and I'm trying to break out of my McDonald's mentality. Just can't do the fish or the seafood.
Oh, and one of everything on the dessert menu, please. Didn't see no sweet potato ice cream. We ate at AQ Chicken House in Springdale Saturday - sweet potato fries - yum - didn't have room for an Apple Dumpling:(
Sweet potato ice cream sounds yummy! We have sweet potato fries-they are very good! The one local restaurant serves baked sweet potato with a mixture of butter, brown sgar and cinnamon to pour over it if you like. It is very good-we have been doing the same at home. Your menu choices look terrific!
Added four FOUR! new shirts to my vacation pile. I may not have to wear any of my plaid oxfords! I even bought an actual nightgown cause if there's an emergency in the middle of the night, I didn't want to scare anybody with my 6x Precious Moments 1994 tee I usually sleep in. Ooops, too much information again.
You ladies are going to have such a good time. Due to all the neat things I've read about you ladies do at the conventions over the years I've always wished to attend...especially this one as New Orleans is one city I'd really like to check out even if for a couple days. All the local food talk is making me crazy!!! Can't wait to read all about it.
I can't believe it is only two weeks away! There is a cafe in Magnolia run by and mostly patronized by New Orleans ex-patriots. I am going to have her cater some good authentic "New Orleans" cuisine. Boy is she a good cook. I teach a painting class there on Wednesday nights. "Cafe and Soiree". Wheew! I can't wait. We may be a small group, but we are going to have some fun!
Melody, our President, has generously sent some great auction items. I know a lot of our members would like to have one of Vicki Quint's out of print "America" books. Well--we have one up for auction. We have two "The America Collection" brochures, 10 color pictures of the Bird of Paradise Quilt and two copies of the Bird of Paradise Cross Stitch pattern. Pictures of all these items are shown below. Send your bids to me, Janyce, Deb, or Debbie M. and we will bid for you just like on eBay. We will also be having "Convention Games 2009" during the convention and some of the pictures, etc. will be given away for answers to America trivia questions and other kinds of things! So bid on the items and stay turned for more fun!

Hey -- I am in! I'll be driving down early Friday morning. I am ready for the dining in NO, PACC fun and the auctions. It is not too late to decide to join us.
There is no test for us! We will ask the questions and the person who answers will get one of the gifts! They can email us at my address or call us at my number with the answers. Check out these pillows that Deb has donated and go the www.paccconvention2009.shutterfly.com convention site for more auction items. Deb, Debbie, Janyce or I will be happy to bid for you.

The cross stitch pattern simplifies the design of the quilt and while it is an EXTREMELY lengthly project it is not extremely difficult. One member told me that she worked over 12 hours a day for over 60 days to complete it! I bought the pattern from member Barbara Billingsley ($50+) and found some beautiful "America" colored aida. I sold a piece to Debbie M., but I think I have enough for another BOP cross stitch. I'll save it for you. You should try it.
Hey Sonnja ~ Deb Mc here. I have the pillows at my house and will measure them up for you this evening. They were painted by my internet friend Joanne MacDonald from British Columbia. Here's a pic of one she did for me to donate to the PACC auction a couple of years ago - not sure who ended up with it but I liked it so much I had her make one I could keep:) Her website is www.pillowdoodles.com. Very nice lady
Since last convention, I thought YOU had made those pillows. I was going to ask you to make one for me! Of course I know the whole story now! They are really beautiful.
The only way anyone can get any of the great auction items is to bid on them or win one in our convention contest. Email Deb, me, Janyce or Debbie M. with your bids.
