Does anyone have a wireless home network? Does anyone have a netbook? Does anyone have a problem with spending money on something they want, but don't need, just because they want it?
Some background. I really really really want a netbook. I really really really don't need a netbook. The mister questions why I really really really want a netbook. So I can sit in my chair in the living room in front of the Tv with Bud on my lap, a glass of Diet Dr. Pepper beside me and a book in one hand. I need internet access so I won't have to get up and walk the 12 feet or so into the office to look up something on the internet. Is that a good reason? What's really making it difficult is that the mister doesn't care if I buy one. He just wishes I would either buy it or shut up about it. Now, if he had told me, no way, you're not getting a netbook, you can bet I'd already have one. 34 years of marriage - I think he's figured me out.
Deb, as you may know, I have very slow dial-up internet service, VSDIS for those who like acronyms. I spend hours every morning checking a few sites, reading and answering email, etc. I have tried for years to get ATT to put a chip in the central office we let them put on the edge of our property. No deal. I was on the verge of signing up for statellite service when ATT offered wireless internet service without the need for a local phone. It is based on their 3G phone system. There is a small USB-connected modem--no big deal. If you have a 3G phone you can also use it for wireless internet on the go. Since it is not tied to a phone # or computer--you can take it with you to other computers--like at work or when you travel Very good!
When I got home from work today, there was a Dell Mini 10 sitting in my chair! I AM spoiled. Or the mister was REALLY tired of hearing me talk about it. Got the wireless router set up in no time. I'm sitting in the living room and surfing the internet ~ cool!
You minx!! Bill does the same thing to me when it is time to buy a new truck. He has to have a new truck every couple of years because he puts so many mile on them---because of his job. He drives me CRAZY!!!!!!!!
I am trying the same kind of business on him about the plane. He was talking about a small landing strip across the back of the property---so it must be working!
I have high speed internet through cable co.-a little on the expensive side but worth it-as long as computer works! I have a cell phone-nothing high tech-would take me forever to figure out how to use it anyway! I would love a laptop-but would have to fight hubby for it all the time anyway! He likes to look for cars on ebay and craigslist or play poker stars-no money-just for fun! Right now I am spending money on yard-mulch,top soil, shrubs, decorative stone and some annuals-don't really need it but just for enjoyment. Oh and computer repairs!!
