I was reading the various comments that the celebs had to say. Of all, I felt John Mayer..yes, the former Mr. Jen A loverboy, summed up best. He totally loved the vintage Micheal Jackson music and the enormous impact it had on the music world. The guy was a genuis in music. But, he couldn't condone the lifestyle(s) MJ lead.
I liked his earlier music...in the late 70's-mid80's. Thriller was one that the deaf kids could relate to..(I taught deaf kids for 23 yrs) .being a bit different and the moves were often imitated. There was a little different hard of hearing boy who had CP (cerebral palsy) and his right hand was a bit curved in. There was a "talent show" at the elementary school and he danced his way as MJ..with the sequins and the glove on the right hand, held high up in the air, and the hat, the shoes, the socks, the whole works and danced his way...bless his heart..to the music. He did a mean "CP moonwalk". I thought of this kid when I saw pics of MJ's moonwalk/glaveed dance in pics.
We all have our time on earth. I am going to say something off base here...but I do think it was time for MJ. He really abused his body and frankly, don't think he could have taken the rigors of the london tour of 50 shows.
Farah Fawcett's death was one that provoked memories of my class I had during the time she was on Charlie's Angels. I taught a really neat group of jr high deaf and hard of hearing kids at that time...co teaching with another teacher. These kids, very, very with it kids, all had the hots for Farah Fawcett. So, to make a play on the phonectic of the last name..I called this gal..."Fizzy Faucet". She had fizzy curly hair..and her last name was faucet. So...on the day after the show...I recall asking how Fizzy Faucet (fingerspelling this spelling) was and had the ooooos and ahhhhs from the boys while rolling their eyes at the cornball joke. Yes, each of them had a FF poster except one. He was in a foster home. I contacted the foster parents and they gave me permission to buy him a FF poster....which he cried when he opened it. It was from all of 'us"...the boys and I (I taught boys sex ed...grin)
It was a weekend of a lot of remembering of past classes. At 56 now..I can safely say this was 25-30 yrs ago. ACK!
Deb, I believe there's a fine line between genius & idiot...I think he certainly floated back & forth. He was a very unusual fella to say the least concerning his infatuation with his face & skin. Too bad he turned out looking almost clownish the last 5 years or so. He was a good looking man before all the surgeries. It's a shame that someone like him (or anyone for that matter) got caught up in the drugs. You've got good doctors & bad doctors & I think he had bad ones who enjoyed his money. I don't think I have a favorite song...my kids & I never bought any of his music, but, most of his music was certainly good dancin' stuff.
I think most of it has been covered-no doubt at one time there was loads of talent there. Somewhere along the way he went way off course. It has to be a tough life and in reality there was no childhood, many turn to booze and/or drugs. I really think it would be hard to overlook all the rumors and charges filed against him dealing with kids-something just was not right!
As for favorite songs-I never had any but my daughter's first day of school she wore a lavender MJ t-shirt with beat It on it-she really liked him back then!
Although not a particular Michael Jackson fan, I did really think that the Thriller album was unique and very clever. At an exercise class we actually worked out to that album.
If you hear reports about how he was treated by his father, one wouldn't be surprised that his life was far from typical!!!
