Question of the week ~ 09/15/09

We all collect dishes of some kind.  What else do you collect besides dishes?

Collect primitive folk art...paintings, to fabric sculpture. Baskets. I like the paintings of Deborah Gregg, daisy-tree on eBay, Margaret, Christine as well as primitive and grungy fabric sculpture and patterns. This month I'm starting my own primitive and grungy craft business. Raven's Haven by Stacy Mead, Tennessee Ridge Primitives, The Ragged Fence, are amongst my favorite resources for primitive fabric crafts. I just enjoy burowsing thru many of the primitive artists's goodies. Primitive Folk Art can be a bit on the odd side..but I enjoy it immensely.

Did you ever feel like you've just got too much stuff? I got that feeling several years ago and got rid of a lot of stuff, mainly over 500 Precious Moments. My friend, Linda Lindquist Baldwin, has a line of Snickles, so I bought them for many years but was getting that "stuff" feeling again so now I just buy the annual ornament.

Is dust collectible?

Janyce, you forgot to answer your own question smile.gif

I don't have many collections compared to some of my friends.  I have quite a lighthouse & brass collection that was put away during the family room renovation & has not yet been put back out...I like the "less is more" look in the room now.  When I re-did my bedroom I found a box under the bed & had no clue what was in it & found my old porcelain bird collection which is soon to be gone.  I currently collect old metal cookie cutters w/red handles for display on one of my Christmas trees & hand blown crackle glass in yellow, amber & cobalt in my bedroom & fireplace mantel & some gorgeous amberina in the kitchen....my good friend's fault for turning me on to that when she would give me a piece for Christmas, but I love the way it looks when the light hits it so it was easy to start collecting.

I almost forgot to post the question altogether. Ha! I wasn't sure if I was repeating a question already asked, also.

I was in a Antique mall the other day and I overheard some lady asking about crackle glass. I do think it is pretty. I went on eBay to look up your amberina glass and realized I have seen it many times but did not know the name of it. I think you learn so much from other people, especially thru what they collect.

I collect the miniature Longaberger Baskets right now. They are so cute! I'm always picking up books about baskets. I find the best bargains at Half Price Bookstore.

Deb MC , Are Snickles the Bells Nickles? I'm not sure I spelled that right. I have a couple of Santa's and they have nickels on the bottom of them.

Yup, those are the ones. She spells it Belsnickle. Very nice lady. Through the years, her pieces have been distributed by Schmid then Enesco and now through her own company. If you happen to have Schmids, those are pretty rare and more sought after by collectors.

Now, how did I know you collect baskets? hehehe

Where do I start? I collect green wooden handled kitchen utensils, which are in my kitchen. I collect Rowe and some other salt glazed pottery and the first Longaberger miniature baskets in my living room. I have my "America" and redware pottery and Longaberger Christmas baskets in my dining room. I have old farm tools , lanterns, Watts Ware Poinsettia pottery and chicken items in my den.I have old pottery crocks and jugs in dining room and stairway.Katie's bedroom has lots of Boyd's Bears ,Cottage Collectible bears and metal doll houses. The hallway upstairs is my year round display area for Christopher Radko,Kurt Adler and original Old World Santas. I have many, many more santas that appear at the holidays.Christmas trees for every room. Hubby collects Nascar, promotional car models and old toys in the basement family room.He aslo collects old pedal cars which he has in his shop down back-with his 71 Corvette and chopped 1953 Chevy pick-up,and any others he picks up here and there! We are collectors-I am sure there are a few more that I could list!

I have a collection of Satsuma (Japanese pottery) in my powder room. I collect snowmen which are out from the week after Thanksgiving until March. I also have a collection of primitive wooden or metal angels. ( all whitewashed). I also have a collection of pottery pitchers. Does my ridiculously large collection of scrapbook paper count? I could take a week to count all the sheets of paper I have in my crafts room.

Susie!  How cool! Let us know where and when we can look at your things.  Will you have your own website?  I love primitive stuff also.
